The 14th BHS Borders Festival of the Horse
May the 16th to the 25th
At various locations around the Scottish Borders
Celebrating the equestrian culture of Scotland’s Horse country. This unique 8-day Festival takes place in 2014 for the fourteenth time this year supported by the Forestry Commission Scotland and European Community Leader Programme. If you have never been to the Borders Festival of the Horse why not give it a go this May?

Highlights of the Festival:

Floors Castle Horse Trials
16th – 18th May
Running within the scenic grounds of Floors Castle, the Horse Trials offer an action packed weekend of dressage, show jumping and cross country. An opportunity to watch some of the country’s top riders as well as Scotland’s rising stars. There will also be a fantastic range of trade stands and food stalls, including the famous BHS Bookshop and Members Tea room. Come visit us!

Unaffiliated Le Trec competition , novice, intermediate and open – please see Nenthorn website for full details from 1st May.
Le Trec is designed to test the rapport and trust between horse and rider.
For all levels and abilities, come and have a go! Practice available on Saturday 2-4pm. Horses can be hired through Jenny. (number below)

“Circus of Spectacles” is an enchanting series of equestrian theatre shows by Les Amis d’Onno, Scotland’s only Equine-Canine Stunt Team. Costumes, music, lights and magical, enchanting performances by both equines & canines. Enjoy tea & cake at the afternoon showings and canapé snacks and bar at the evening performances.
All housed in our new “Big Top” venue.

From the A68 take the A698 direction Hawick. Turn left for Lanton village 1½ miles along, take the road through Lanton village, continue straight up the hill for ½ mile. Lanton Hill Farm is the first farm track on the right.

10am onwards. Participants will have a chance to harness, put to and drive a turnout. They will learn the safety and fun aspects of carriage driving and have a chance to drive in beautiful countryside learning all aspects of road and off road terrain.
Bring a picnic lunch, hard hats, warm clothes and gloves.

Follow signs from the main Glentress Forest entrance off the A 72 (NT 283 395)
See working horses in action pulling timber from woodland and meet local horse loggers Caitlin and Rab Erskine with their commercial horse logging team Rhona (Ardennes) and Angel (Cob). Discover how horses continue to play an active role in sustainable forest management.
Entrance by donation to BHL Charitable Trust. Normal car parking charges apply. Booking preferred. Disabled access & facilities limited: phone to discuss requirements.

International Tilting Demonstration: The Haining, Selkirk. Thursday 22nd May, 6.30 pm. Spectators free. Disabled access. Refreshments.
After a 400-year gap, the ancient art of tilting at the ring was re-introduced to Scotland from Denmark at last year’s Borders Festival of the Horse. Since then the Scottish Borders Tilters Association has been set up, and two groups have been in training throughout the winter. Now they are once again joined by Danish riders in a demonstration in the lovely grounds of the Haining House in the centre of Selkirk. Come along and see how it’s done, and find out how you too can take part in highly addictive equestrian sport.

We are pleased to be to participating in the Festival of the Horse and are offering various demonstrations of our work in this year’s event.
Stable Life provides valuable opportunity and enhanced support to children and young people who are experiencing personal challenges . Our service offers a safe, nurturing and learning experience using the horse and his surroundings to help young people reach their full potential, become healthier and happier with
aspirations and dreams. We offer a unique approach where young people discover a sense of self, build up relationships built on trust and respect with the young person’s needs at the centre of a tailored service.
Also on show will be our fabulous livery facilities, indoor and outdoor schools for hire, the Hut and various volunteering opportunities.
